Child Care Subsidy and Affordability Funding

The Government of Alberta provides Subsidy and Affordability Funding to help eligible parents pay their monthly childcare fees. Parents must apply for subsidy, keep it active, and pay any fees the subsidy does not cover. Families who receive subsidy must also meet minimum attendance requirements to maintain their funding.

When you apply for subsidy, you must enter the exact program name and Program ID Number for the site your child attends. We will give you this information at registration. If you enter incorrect details, you will significantly delay your funding. You can find more resources and information about childcare on the Government of Alberta Children and Youth Services website: Childcare subsidy | Alberta.ca.

Families with children (ages 0 to 6) enrolled in a Licensed Program offering Daycare, Preschool, Kindergarten, or Out of School Care automatically receive Affordability Funding. You do not need to apply for this funding as long as your child is registered for full-time or part-time care.

*Note: If your child will be away sick or on holiday for a month or more, contact Saima Rizvi at 403-286-2555 Ext. #109 or doscfinance@dalhousiecalgary.ca. Be aware that the Government may cancel your affordability funding for the month your child is away, and you will need to pay the full fee.

You can find additional resources and information about Affordability Funding on the Government of Alberta website: Alberta Child Care Affordability Grant Funding Guide.

Licensing and Accreditation

DOSC is licensed and follows all government regulations for health, safety, and care. Each location posts licensing inspections and incident reports on the Parent Information Board.

Accreditation sets a standard of excellence in childcare that goes beyond licensing requirements. When childcare programs voluntarily undertake this rigorous process, they commit to maintaining a high standard of care. The Province of Alberta grants accreditation status to programs that complete the prescribed process and successfully demonstrate their ability to deliver quality programming and care that meet Alberta’s accreditation standards.

In March 2020, our governing bodies merged the two separate entities under one title. We look forward to the opportunities this evolutionary decision brings to the future of Early Childhood Education.
