CMLC Dalhousie LRT TOC
Hello Dalhousie residents. The Dalhousie Community Association (DCA) was provided the following information from Calgary Municipal Land Corporation regarding their upcoming investigations into Dalhousie LRT as a potential Transit Oriented Community.
Calgary Municipal Land Corporation (CMLC) is in the early stages of exploring potential master planned Transit-Oriented Communities (TOC) in Calgary.
It’s part of CMLC’s partnership with The City of Calgary to create new housing, retail spaces and community amenities on City-owned land along the Red Line LRT in support of The City’s Home is Here housing strategy.
The Dalhousie LRT Station Park & Ride has initially been identified as a potential TOC because of its proximity to public transit and major transportation corridors, which gives it great potential to become a well-connected and vibrant part of the community with a range of housing options, commercial and retail spaces, and new community amenities and public spaces.
The first step in CMLC’s exploration of the TOC is to hear from the community.
What makes your community great? What would make your community an even better place to live, work and play? How could the development of new homes at your community LRT station support your community’s priorities?
The community survey is open until July 7, 2025 at calgarymlc.ca/TOC
The DCA Planning and Development Committee (the PD Committee) met with CMLC to hear more about this project. At this point, the project is early stage with initial activity being a geotechnical assessment, with on-site work taking place in stages Friday, June 27th and Saturday, June 28th, 2025. The community survey, which is being promoted by a mail drop to all residents and by signage throughout the community, is intended to help inform CMLC’s understanding of the community and (hopefully) community expectations for the site. As the project proceeds, additional engagement will follow, including workshops and open houses.
While Dalhousie does not have a statutory plan to guide development, the PD Committee pointed CMLC to the Future Layers of Dalhousie report (https://www.dalhousiecalgary.ca/futurelayersofdalhousie/). In addition, we noted the importance of major development strengthening community connections and providing amenities and services that are convenient and easily accessible to residents.
The PD Committee will endeavor to stay up to speed on this project by continuing to engage with CMLC to provide our perspectives as well as help distribute information as it becomes available.
