The Arusha Centre

The DCA is proud to welcome The Arusha Centre as a Community Partner for the Sustainable Living Expo. Arusha will provide the Repair Exchange, Pedal Power Tower, pedal-powered blender and a special presentation, along with the volunteers needed to bring these free activities to life.

Activities Throughout the Expo

Explore hands-on activities, repair and donation opportunities, demonstrations, and family-friendly experiences throughout the Expo.

Unless otherwise noted, activities run from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm.

Join Ciclomanias for a hands-on Kids workshop to paint a mini-frame made from recycled cardboard while learning how everyday materials can be transformed into something useful and beautiful. Choose from fun designs including puppies, bunnies, butterflies and flowers.

A free program where individuals can learn how to repair broken household items alongside the help of a community member.

Bring clothing, small household appliances, technology and bikes for minor repairs and maintenance.

Put your pedal power to the test! Race to generate 300 watts and ring the bell on the 15-foot Pedal Power Tower, or hop on the blender bike and use your energy to power a blender.

Bring your gently used clothing to swap for new-to-you finds while helping keep textiles out of the landfill. Advance registration is required and the $10 participation fee is paid online. Bring up to 30 clean, gently used items and receive one ticket for each accepted item.

Has your child outgrown their bike? Bring it to the Kids Bike Trade Up and exchange it for a refurbished, properly sized bike at no charge, subject to availability. Donated bikes are repaired and returned to the community for another child to enjoy.

Discover how red wiggler worms can transform food scraps into nutrient-rich compost. Learn how to set up and care for a worm bin and reduce household food waste through simple, year-round composting.

Bring your dull knives, scissors, mower blades and other garden tools for professional sharpening.

This is a paid service. Cost dependent on item.

Drop off desktops, laptops, monitors, printers, scanners, phone systems, servers, lab equipment, cables and accessories. Both PC and Mac devices are accepted, including partial units.

Arepas Ranch is a family-owned food truck serving homemade Venezuelan cuisine, specializing in gluten-free arepas filled with options like shredded beef, chicken, beans, ham and cheese, along with vegetarian and vegan choices.

Advanced Energy Efficient Future – 10:30 am – 11:30 am

During this 60-minute workshop attendees will learn about building technologies, heat pumps, and solar systems. Home retrofits are a crucial step in improving energy efficiency and reducing carbon emissions. This workshop is a great source of information for homeowners who are thinking about investing in retrofits. The workshop encourages discussion from the audience on their experience with the topics and brings people who have experience with various installations.

What is a Circular Economy? – 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm

During this presentation, attendees will learn how our current “take, make, dispose” economy works and how a circular economy offers a more sustainable alternative. The session will explore the benefits of keeping products and materials in use longer, reducing waste and conserving resources. Attendees will also discover practical ways individuals, businesses and communities can support the transition to a circular economy in their everyday lives.
