Cycling Safety
The Dalhousie Community Association is disappointed with the image used on the cover of the July 2026 issue of Your Dalhousie, as well as its inclusion inside the publication.
Bicycle safety is important, and the City of Calgary cycling bylaw requires anyone under the age of 18 to wear a helmet. The photo shows three children riding bicycles without helmets, which does not reflect the safety standards we want to promote in our community.
We have received complaints from residents who believe Your Dalhousie is an official community newsletter connected to the Dalhousie Community Association. This has created concern and confusion, particularly because the image appears to endorse unsafe cycling practices involving children.
We have asked Great News Media, the publishers of Your Dalhousie to include a prominent apology and clarification in the next edition and asked them to remind readers of the importance of helmet use for children and youth.
