Bearspaw South Feeder Main Update
An Update on Calgary’s Water System: What to Expect This Fall.
As the City works toward long-term water security, crews are entering a major milestone on the Bearspaw South Feeder Main project: connecting the brand-new replacement pipe directly into Calgary’s water grid!
To safely complete these vital tie-ins, temporary water restrictions will be in place for about four weeks this fall. Here is a quick look at what’s ahead and how we can all help.
Key Dates: Mid-October to Early November
-
Indoor Water Conservation: We’ll all be asked to be mindful of our tap water indoors. Simple habits like shorter showers, full dishwasher and laundry loads, and turning taps off while brushing teeth make a huge collective difference.
Why Now?
Connecting a massive transmission main requires sections of the line to be taken offline. By doing this work together in late autumn, water demand across the city is naturally lower, helping keep reservoirs balanced while crews work around the clock.
Looking Ahead
Once connections wrap up in early November, the new line will be disinfected and tested (no restrictions required during that phase!), with the brand-new feeder main scheduled to enter full service this December 2026.
